Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)
PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure the safe and effective use of Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN), please follow these guidelines before starting your treatment:
Inform your provider about your complete medical history, especially if you have liver disease, opioid dependence, or any significant health conditions.
You cannot be on any opioids or pain medications to start Low Dose Naltrexone.
Disclose any current medications you are taking, especially those for pain management, immune system modulation, or any psychiatric treatments.
Prepare for gradual dosing—LDN typically starts at a low dose and increases gradually to minimize potential side effects.
If pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss with your healthcare provider to ensure LDN is suitable for you.
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
After starting Low Dose Naltrexone, following proper aftercare will ensure that you experience the best results with minimal side effects:
Do not consume alcohol while taking LDN as it may exacerbate side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness.
Avoid opioid medications while taking LDN, as it could interfere with the effectiveness of both treatments.
Start with a low dose and gradually increase as directed by your provider to minimize side effects.
Monitor for side effects—common side effects may include mild insomnia, vivid dreams, or headaches. If these persist or become uncomfortable, notify your provider.
Take LDN at night, ideally before bed, to minimize potential side effects like insomnia or restlessness. LDN works with the immune system so taking at night is also best for this cycle.
Maintain consistent dosing—take your prescribed dose at the same time each day to maintain a steady level of medication in your system.
Report any adverse reactions such as dizziness, nausea, or mood changes to your provider, especially if they persist.
Regular follow-up is important for monitoring the effectiveness of LDN, and your provider may recommend periodic blood tests to assess liver function and other health parameters.
