PRP Joint Injections
PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure the best results from your PRP Joint Injection treatment, please follow these pre-treatment guidelines:
Avoid blood-thinning medications (like aspirin, ibuprofen, or certain supplements such as fish oil and vitamin E) for 7 days before the procedure, unless directed by your healthcare provider.
Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours prior to the treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
Shower and clean the treatment area thoroughly on the day of your procedure. It is important that the area is clean to reduce the risk of infection.
Do not apply lotions, creams, or oils on the treatment area before your session.
If you have any active infections in the joint or surrounding areas (such as an open wound, skin infection, or active arthritis flare), please inform your provider, as treatment may need to be rescheduled.
Hydrate well in the days leading up to your procedure, as proper hydration is important for the PRP process and healing.
Avoid intense physical activity and heavy exercise for 24-48 hours before your appointment to prevent inflammation and discomfort during the procedure.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any specific medical conditions (such as cancer or bleeding disorders), please inform your provider before undergoing PRP therapy.
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
After your PRP Joint Injection treatment, follow these aftercare guidelines to ensure optimal healing and results:
Avoid heavy exercise or physical activity for 24-48 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of inflammation and soreness.
Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or hot showers for 24 hours after treatment to prevent swelling and irritation.
Do not massage or manipulate the treated joint for 24-48 hours to allow the PRP to be absorbed effectively.
Mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site is normal and should subside within 2-5 days.
Apply ice to the treated area if necessary to reduce swelling or discomfort (for 10-15 minutes at a time, several times a day).
Over-the-counter pain relievers (such as Tylenol) may be taken if necessary, but avoid NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) as they may interfere with the healing process.
Follow a healthy diet and stay hydrated, as good nutrition can help promote healing and support the recovery process.
Do not use any heat treatments on the joint area for 48 hours after treatment.
You may resume gentle activities after 24-48 hours but avoid high-impact or strenuous activities for 1-2 weeks.
Follow up with your provider for any necessary check-ups. A series of treatments may be recommended for the best results. Typically, 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart are suggested for optimal improvement.
Note: PRP Joint Injections utilize your body’s own healing cells to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and stimulate tissue repair in the joint. Full results may take 4-6 weeks to become noticeable as the healing process occurs, and multiple sessions are typically recommended for long-lasting relief.
